What the homeowner said
Danielle Reed
I would highly recommend Crafted Exterior Services to anyone looking for high-quality home exterior work. They recently replaced my roof, siding, gutters, and front door, and the entire experience was outstanding from start to finish.
Here is why they deserve 5 stars:
The Roofing Crew (Led by Miguel): Miguel and his team were fantastic. They arrived early, were incredibly professional and friendly, and managed to complete the entire roof in just one day. They also did a thorough cleanup, leaving no debris behind.
The Siding & Door Crew (Led by Luke): Luke and his team were amazing. They showed up before 7:00 AM every morning and worked well past 5:00 PM to ensure the project stayed on track for its one-week timeframe. On the final day, despite incoming storms, they stayed until almost 8:00 PM just to get the job done. They went above and beyond by installing our new front door and even hanging new exterior lights for us.
The Gutter Crew (Led by Carlos): The gutters were installed quickly and efficiently. The team hauled away all extra materials and trash, leaving the property cleaner than they found it!
I am extremely pleased with the premium quality of both the materials and the craftsmanship. If you want a contractor that is reliable, hardworking, and meticulous, look no further than Crafted Exterior Services!

Before the project

The challenge and how we solved it
The challenge: the homeowner wanted the whole exterior redone: roof, siding, gutters and the front door. That meant three crews working one after another without leaving the house open to the weather.
The solution: the roofing crew tore off and replaced the entire 20-square roof in a single day. The siding crew then wrapped the walls and installed the new siding over about a week, along with the new front door and exterior lights, and the gutter crew installed the new gutters to finish.
What we did
- Removed the existing roofing down to the decking so every sheet could be inspected.
- Installed black PVC-coated drip edge, Owens Corning ProArmor synthetic underlayment, ice and water shield along the eaves and valleys, and starter shingles.
- Installed Owens Corning Duration shingles in Onyx Black, with six nails per shingle.
- Installed Lifetime Ultimate pipe boots, painted the pipes to match, and installed VentSure ridge vent along the ridges.
- Removed the old siding and wrapped the walls in house wrap.
- Installed the new siding, the new front door and new exterior lights.
- Installed new gutters and hauled away all debris.

The finished project

Why these materials
Owens Corning Duration shingles in Onyx Black. Owens Corning rates Duration shingles Class 3 for impact resistance and builds them with SureNail Technology, a reinforced nailing strip for stronger holding power. Crafted installs them with six nails per shingle. Owens Corning lists a 130 mph wind warranty, rising to 160 mph when its required components and starter shingles are installed (see the manufacturer warranty for details).
Owens Corning ProArmor synthetic underlayment. A synthetic underlayment that Owens Corning says repels water better than 15 lb felt and gives the crew safer footing on the roof.
Ice and water shield. A self-adhering waterproof membrane along the eaves and in the valleys, where ice dams and wind-driven rain are most likely to push water under shingles.
House wrap under the siding. The walls were wrapped before the new siding went on, adding a weather barrier behind the panels.
Keeping your roof and siding in good shape
- Clean the gutters and downspouts after the leaves drop in the fall, so water drains off the eaves instead of backing up under the shingles.
- Look the roof over from the ground after major wind or hail storms. The National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office posts storm warnings for this area, and missing or creased shingles should be checked by a roofer before the next rain.
- Keep the attic vents open. Insulation pushed against the soffit vents blocks the airflow the ridge vent depends on.
- Have the pipe boots and flashing looked at every few years. Those joints are where small leaks usually start.
- Never pressure wash the shingles. It strips the protective granules off the surface.
- Rinse the siding with a garden hose once a year. Skip the pressure washer, which can force water behind the panels.
