What the homeowner said
Karen Farrow
We hired Crafted Exterior Services to do extensive home repairs after a large tree fell across our yard and onto our roof. It turned out that it was not possible to match our existing aluminum siding, so new vinyl siding was needed on the entire house. There was also a small hole in the roof and the gutters were severely dented.
Crafted’s online reviews were very encouraging and Courtney scheduled an estimate appointment promptly. We found the price reasonable and it was a plus that they could do all the work, roof, gutters, and siding, without needing to coordinate several different contractors.
We couldn’t be happier with the result. Luke and Isaiah, who were the leads on the work crew, were extremely thorough and we were impressed with their attention to detail. The materials used were high quality and the installation was completed thoroughly and professionally. We decided to replace the shutters as well. Our home looks like new! We highly recommend Crafted Exterior Services.

During the project

The challenge and how we solved it
The challenge: a tree came down across the yard and onto the house, damaging the siding, the upper roof edge and a gutter. The existing aluminum siding was no longer made in a matching profile, so patching it wasn’t an option.
The solution: the crew removed all the old siding, checked the plywood underneath, wrapped the house in Tyvek HomeWrap and installed new CertainTeed MainStreet vinyl siding in Herringbone. They also fixed the shingles and drip edge on the upper back roof, replaced the damaged gutter and downspout with a new gutter guard, and resealed the damaged windows, so one crew handled the whole repair.
What we did
- Removed all of the existing siding.
- Inspected the plywood sheathing and replaced any that needed it.
- Wrapped the house in DuPont Tyvek HomeWrap.
- Installed CertainTeed MainStreet vinyl siding in Herringbone.
- Repaired the shingles and drip edge on the upper roof at the back of the house.
- Replaced the gutter and downspout on the upper back roof and installed a new gutter guard.
- Wrapped the damaged seals on three windows at the back of the house.
- Cleaned up and hauled away all debris.
The finished project

Why these materials
CertainTeed MainStreet vinyl siding in Herringbone. MainStreet is CertainTeed’s vinyl siding line. The panels on this job carry a Class 1(A) fire rating.
DuPont Tyvek HomeWrap. A weather barrier installed on the walls under the siding to keep wind and water out while letting moisture escape.
Gutter guard. Installed on the new upper gutter to keep leaves from clogging it.
Keeping your siding in good shape
- Rinse the siding with a garden hose once or twice a year. Skip the pressure washer, which can force water behind the panels.
- Keep mulch, firewood and soil a few inches below the bottom row of siding.
- Trim back trees and branches near the house. A falling limb is what started this repair.
- Check the gutters and downspouts after storms, and clear the gutter guard of anything sitting on top.
- Look over the window seals once a year and reseal any gaps.
